Personally, my first experience eating a “blooming” anything was the blooming onion at Chili’s and it was one of the greatest appetizers that I could remember. I couldn’t stop pulling onion petals one after another and plunging them into the spicy dips that accompanied the appetizer. Now just think how great that would be with sweet fruit. A recipe for blooming apples from The Gunny Sack is something I just HAD to try and it did not disappoint.
Finish it off with a delicious scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzled caramel, and a little sprinkling of cinnamon and you have a dessert that will knock your socks off.

What better way to transform delicious Honeycrisp apples into an even more delicious dessert than with a recipe for blooming apples?
First, slice the top 1/4 to 1/3 of the apple and scoop out the core.
Because apples don’t have layers as an onion has, you’ll need to make two deep circular cuts around the apple. Next, turn the apple over and make deep cuts around the apple at about every half inch. How’s that for apple hacks?
Put apples in an oven dish and drop two caramels into the center of each apple.
Heat the butter and brown sugar in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir, and microwave again for 30 seconds. Add flour and cinnamon to the sugar mixture and divide evenly between both apples.
After 25-30 minutes in a 375-degree oven (or until the apples are tender), you’ll have an ooey gooey dessert that will taste so good.
