When boaters went out on Swann Creek on the 4th of July weekend, they never expected to save a life. As they got on the water, they heard yelping sounds and initially thought it was birds.
Instead, it was a young raccoon that had problems swimming to shore and probably got lost. Just like this hummingbird that was floating in the water and needed help, this helpless raccoon also needed to be rescued. One of the boaters had an excellent idea of throwing down a life preserver to rescue the raccoon and tow it to shore. He seemed to enjoy the ride back to safety during this raccoon rescue!
“During the early morning hours of July 4, 2016, one of our crew aboard our boat heard a yelping sound and at first it sounded like birds overhead. Several hours later, ” writes Peter, one of the boaters who posted the video on YouTube, “we finally found the source of the cry – a young raccoon treading water on the side of the boat. Not wanting to pick it up out of the water, we threw it a life preserver to climb upon and then towed it to land.”
