Dennis the Dachshund lived on a diet of cheeseburgers, pizza, and junk food and quickly grew to a whopping 56 pounds. Brooke Burton, a nursing student, was devastated when she saw the dog and didn’t even know what breed he was because of his size. She felt compelled to ask the owner, which was a relative of hers, if she could adopt him.
Once adopted, she put Dennis on a strict diet and began going for many walks with him. With proper nutrition and exercise, little Dennis is now only 12 pounds and looks healthy and vibrant. He can probably now run as fast as these Dachshund puppies playing with a GoPro camera.
Dennis the overweight Dachshund weighed 56 pounds and lived on cheeseburgers, pizza, and junk food.
The 26-year-old nursing student that found him, Brooke Burton, didn’t even know he was a Dachshund because of his size.
The dog belonged to a relative and she asked if she could adopt him.
Once in her care, she quickly put Dennis on a diet of dry dog food and began going out for walks with him.
The pounds started dropping and Dennis began to have more energy.
Every week, he would be slimmer than the week before and loved playing again. Before, he could only walk a few feet before having to take a rest.
He had to go through three operations to remove excess sagging skin as a result of his weight loss.
Today, he is a shadow of his former self and looks like a happy Dachshund now.
Thanks to his new owner Brooke Burton, Dennis can get back to a healthy life with proper nutrition and exercise.
