This became a reality for one grieving mother when her 31-year-old son, Greg Ricks, tragically lost his life in a car accident. Faced with unimaginable pain, she made a selfless and loving choice—to donate his organs so that others might live. Her decision didn’t just offer comfort in a time of loss; it also gave hope to those clinging to life.
One of those lives was Greg Robbins. In March 2016, at the age of 47, Robbins suffered a severe heart attack. He underwent an emergency quadruple bypass surgery, but his condition worsened, and he was eventually placed on life support. By August, he was added to the heart transplant waiting list. Then, in September 2016, thanks to the generosity of Greg Ricks’ mother, Robbins received the gift of life—a new heart because of a heart donor.
Six months later, Greg Robbins and his wife received a heartfelt letter from the donor’s mother. They arranged to meet in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. What followed was an incredibly emotional moment: the mother listened to her son’s heart beating once more, now giving life to another man. The powerful moment was captured on video and has touched hearts around the world.
