Who would have known that one of the most endangered animals in the world is also one of the cutest? The Ili Pika (Ochotona Iliensis) is remarkably elusive and live in the Tianshan Mountains in northwestern China. It was first discovered by a conservationist named Li Weidong in 1983.
The following photos are the most recent photos of an adorable Ili Pika in the past 20 years and were again taken by Li and his team.
The adorable Ili Pika lives in the Tianshan Mountains in northwestern China and is extremely rare.
It is expected that there are only approximately 1,000 in existence and is on the endangered species list.
They are often called “Magic Rabbits” because they disappear the moment they are spotted.
Conservationist Li Weidong first discovered the Ili Pika species in 1983. He has retired early to dedicate his life to studying and preserving their population.
In an interview with CNN, Li said “I discovered the species, and I watched as it became endangered. If it becomes extinct in front of me, I’ll feel so guilty.” Bless him for dedicating so much of his time to ensuring this adorable rabbit can thrive. Please share these adorable photos of the adorable but elusive Ili Pika with your friends and family.
